Our Mission
The Kristie Ann Gonzalez Lung Awareness Foundation is a 501(c) (3), non -profit donor supported foundation dedicated to raising public awareness about Adenovirus by increasing education for patients, physicians and the community. In recent years, vaccines have been developed for adenovirus serotypes 4 and 7, but were available only for preventing ARD among military recruits.
Strict attention to good infection-control practices is effective for stopping nosocomial outbreaks of adenovirus-associated disease, such as epidemic keratoconjunctivitis. However, as Kristie’s parents learned, the disease can take its toll rapidly.
The goal of public awareness is to increase the patient’s understanding and embracing of preventive actions designed to reduce the life-threatening nature of this virus. In addition, the public awareness will be extremely focused on physicians. Doctors are well-trained, but will benefit with specific, disease-focused, in-depth education on Adenovirus.
Combined with community events to inform the general public, it is our goal and mission to reduce the cases of life-threatening adenovirus. With your help, we can and will accomplish our mission.
